REFLECTIVE SEISMICS
In the hydrocarbon industry, reflection seismology, commonly referred to as "seismic reflection" or simply "seismic," is widely used by petroleum geologists and geophysicists to map and interpret potential oil reservoirs. In recent years, it has also been employed in the exploration of coal and coal-bed methane. Additionally, shallow high-resolution reflection seismic has started to be used for bedrock investigations and landslide studies.
Reflection seismology, or seismic reflection, involves generating and recording seismic waves that penetrate the subsurface and bounce back (reflect) when encountering different rock layers or interfaces. By analyzing the recorded seismic data, geoscientists can infer the subsurface structures and identify potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. This information aids in the decision-making process for exploration and production activities in the hydrocarbon industry.
